Why it's OK to want the 'Impossible'

Achieve the impossible

I was watching the film, The Gambler, on DVD about a week ago and there was a monologue in it that completely blew my mind. It was one of those pieces of dialogue, very similar in sentiment to the, 'our great war is a spiritual war, our great depression is our lives'  speech from Tyler Durden in Fight Club, that perfectly captures the sense of disillusionment that many of us feel with modern life.

Walking your own path can be hard. It can seem that you're all alone, taking on a world that doesn't give a sh#t about you or have room for your unique talents and personality. Sometimes you may wonder if you'll ever find a place to call your own or whether, ultimately, you'll just have to accept The System's path and to paraphrase Wayne Dyer, 'let the music die still in you.'

I don't want this to happen to you. I want you to feel certain in yourself and certain in your desire to pursue a life greater than the one The System offers.

The Matrix is real! I knew it when I walked out of the cinema over 14 years ago and my subsequent experiences only confirmed my initial suspicion.

Not that I believe we're human batteries plugged into a computer mainframe, but the metaphor is very real. A whole planet fed a false version of reality built on the lie that we're limited, unable to govern our lives and that the material is more important than the spiritual. I call it The System. The Wachowski brothers called it The Matrix, but we're talking about the same thing.
